Starorežná Prostějov » Introduction » History

Our company's work builds upon a history of spirits production that dates as far back as the16th century, when in the year 1518 Lord Vilém of Pernštejn granted the right to produce malt, brew beer and distill „brandy“ to the „U zeleného stromu“ (Green Tree) house, located on the town square of Prostějov. This house has survived entire centuries and neither wars nor major fires which afflicted the town of Prostějov interrupted the production of brandy.
In the beginning and until the 17th century, brandies were made by distilling spoiled beer and wine. After the end of the Thirty Years' War, Michal Storch became the owner of the „U zeleného stromu“ house and began to distill brandy from rye.

The year 1920 brought another revolution. After the sale of the house to the town, a cooperative of innkeepers was formed, which purchased the house from the town and operated on the original premises up until nationalization in 1948. Subsequently, at the end of the 1950s, the entire production was moved into the former Binko brewery, where it remains to this day.
In 1992 our operation was privatized through direct sale to the Starorežná Prostějov limited partnership, which continues in the centuries-old tradition of spirits production.
Of course, in all those years, both the technological and assortment aspects of production changed countless times until they reached the current modern high-capacity form.
